Discipline

At Jenner’s Kids, we believe that effective and positive discipline is about teaching and guiding children, not just forcing them to obey. Discipline is applied with mutual respect in a firm, fair, reasonable and consistent way. The goal is to protect your child from danger, help your child learn self-discipline, and develop a healthy conscience and an internal sense of responsibility and control. It should also instill values. Disciplinary methods will vary with different age groups and circumstances and is approached in a positive manner that emphasizes making good choices. Methods include conflict resolution, redirection, and positive reinforcement. Bonding with the teacher and gaining respect for the teacher are important elements and .may take some significant time and energy with some children to develop. Even though we are pointing out unacceptable behavior, your child should always know that he or she is still cared for and loved. When appropriate and necessary, we will use a “timeout” or “cool down” period, especially for older children. It is not uncommon for a child to experience anxiety when introduced to daycare/preschool for the first time, or even changing daycare/preschools and often takes a few weeks to adjust to the new environment. We will make this transition as easy as we can for your child.
